Royal St. George’s College has long been known for its rich tradition in the arts, particularly in choral and instrumental music. This legacy is largely due to the remarkable contributions of two beloved faculty members, Douglas Jamieson and Tom Wade West, both of whom have shaped the musical landscape at RSGC for decades.
In recognition of their outstanding service, two RSGC families, Nicole Musicco (Matteo ‘24 - Choir), and Alyssa Pei & Neal Sondheimer (Alex ‘24, Henry ‘25 - Band) have generously committed to a $100,000 matching gift challenge. For every dollar raised for this fund, these families will match donations up to $100,000, potentially raising $200,000 or more. We encourage your participation in helping us honour the contributions of these two remarkable educators.
Tom Wade West’s 42-year career at RSGC is remarkable . As the second-longest serving faculty member in the College’s history, Tom has taught students across every grade, from 3 to 12, and worked with six Headmasters. His impact on the College’s instrumental music program is profound, having introduced many young Georgians to the joy of music through his teaching and leadership in the Band Room. He has been a role model, a mentor, and a coach, bringing optimism, professionalism, and kindness to everything he does.
For more than 30 years, Douglas Jamieson has been the backbone of the Choral Music program at RSGC. His vision transformed the program into a high school credit course, extending the gift of choral music to students from Grades 3 to 12. Douglas’s leadership ensured that choral music has sustained as a cherished tradition at the College, giving countless Georgians some of their most treasured memories. Douglas continues to serve as Director of Choral Music Emeritus, guiding his successor and ensuring the ongoing success of the choral program.
To honour the incredible legacy of these two gentlemen, RSGC has established the Jamieson-Wade West Fund for the Arts. This endowment fund will support the continued growth and enhancement of the music programs at RSGC, ensuring that future generations of Georgians benefit from the same level of musical excellence that Doug and Tom have cultivated over their distinguished careers.
