It is through the generosity of the Georgian Community – alumni, alumni parents, parents, grandparents and friends of the College – that we are able to give boys the experience of a lifetime. Enriching programs in academics, music, art, drama and athletics help make for a well-rounded education that leads to a successful future.

Your generosity allows us to continue to make the Georgian experience the best it can be and accomplish our goals as a College. There are many ways you can support RSGC. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any questions.

JOY AND LAUGHTER

A Message from Stephen Beatty '86, Headmaster and father of Jack, Class of 2022 and Finn, Class of 2025

The time to reflect is always a gift. Looking back gives us perspective and helps us acknowledge what we value, and recognize opportunities to stretch and grow. This is the process that my colleagues and I, along with the Board, parents, students, alumni and alumni parents undertook this past year to create our new Strategic Plan – Our Knight Vision.

The goals will guide us for the next five years, ensuring that our promises to our students are fulfilled and the value of a great education is experienced. It is with this as my motivation that I reach out to you today. I’m asking for your support to help fulfill these promises.

We believe that boys come to school to learn and that above all else, we will continue to tend to this with great care. But we also recognize that a great education today needs to include more than an academic experience.

One of our big themes this year is Joy and Laughter. We believe that each boy should be known and loved, and that learning takes place within relationships. Our boys bring all of themselves to school. Their unique character should be seen and honored. Joy and Laughter belong here! One of the fastest ways to experience joy is through movement. This year, the annual appeal will fund the replacement to our artificial turf – a heated, more durable surface will allow year-round play. An opportunity for boys to run, play and build relationships outside the classroom.

Our Strategic Plan also stresses the need for a cohesive, healthy and resilient community. With this in mind, my faculty and I are committed to ensure our students receive the attention, information and resources they need to support their physical and emotional wellness. Our goal is to graduate joyful students who will bring positive change to their communities and into their world. Please help us provide this for our boys.

Our 100% Georgian Annual Appeal reflects the importance of 100% participation in our fundraising efforts for the College. As parents and members of the community, I feel it is our responsibility to continue this long-standing tradition of funding enhancements to the College’s facilities and programs. Our boys will reap the benefits now, as will Georgians of the future.

Thank you for your continued support of our great school!

P.S. Made possible through the support of our generous community, this past summer we completed the final phase of the Junior School Redevelopment Plan. See the transformation of our Middle School spaces.

  • Headmaster’s Initiatives

A gift towards Headmaster’s Initiatives allows our Headmaster to fund immediate priorities and to quickly fund opportunities and needs as they arise.

    This year, these include:

    Turf upgrade and New Scoreboard
In 2012, RSGC installed its first artificial turf field. It has been used daily, year-round, for team sports like soccer, rugby and flag football, as well as for practices, running and the many athletics in which our students participate, both competitively and recreationally. Our boys embraced this space and it quickly became one of the most highly used areas at the College, accessed by boys in all grades.

The turf regularly undergoes inspections and minor repairs. After multiple years of consistent use and enjoyment, the surface must be replaced to continue to provide optimum use for our boys. The new high-quality heated turf is designed to stay green for a lifetime and stand up to our harsh Canadian climate. The new surface will also provide a degree of cushion to help minimize scrapes and bruises on our active boys.

This upgrade will enhance both our Physical and health education program, and our competitive programming. A heated turf surface will alter our limited outdoor space from a three-season teaching/rec space to a safe year-round space that would be available for PHE classes and recreational time such as recess.

The turf upgrade will be complemented by a new scoreboard that connects to mobile devices and tablets to control outdoor scoreboards for a variety of sports. Using a bluetooth connection, an app will send commands to an interface box, which then directly controls the scoreboard via wired or wireless signal.

    Student Wellness Initiatives
We are committed to consciously building joy at RSGC. Mental health is a critical part of well-being and must be integrated into everyday life at the College. Our wellness initiatives will include speakers and outreach opportunities, the presence of mental health professionals and community building activities designed to build joy and laughter into the school day.

    Innovation Fund
The Innovation Fund encourages exploration of new practices amongst the RSGC faculty, supporting unique and innovative practices. The Fund allows our faculty to pilot creative and unique projects they hope will expand and improve teaching and learning practices and ultimately benefit their students. Part of the process includes assessment of projects in advance, then measuring and documenting effectiveness in practice, and identifying cross-over benefits for other departments.
  • Manners Maketh Men Scholarship and Bursary Fund

The College continues to focus on the funding of scholarships for deserving boys who would otherwise not be able to afford an RSGC education. Named in honour of our founding Headmaster Dr. J.L. Wright, who proffered the “Manners Maketh Men” credo, this Fund will allow RSGC to offer admission to the best boys from all background, including students who would be an excellent fit for the RSGC family, but are unable to afford an independent school education. This year, six boys receiving financial aid have qualified for full tuition and related expenses; the most full-tuition scholars in the College’s recent history.
  • Georgian Opportunity Fund

It has always been in the character of the College to provide for boys who deserve a world-class education. Scholarships help many young boys who would be an excellent fit for the RSGC family and who embody our “Manners Maketh Men” values become the exceptional leaders of our future. Scholarships truly make a difference.

The Georgian Opportunity Fund provides up to 100% tuition support to deserving boys from Grades 9-12 and includes:

    • Up to 100% tuition
    • Uniform
    • Books
    • School trips and extracurricular expenses
    • Laptop
    • TTC fare
    • Daily lunch
  • Next Generation Georgian Fund

This endowment fund was established to allow the College to become more financially accessible for our alumni families. This needs-based financial aid is available to all eligible children of alumni applying to Grades 7-12. Eligibility is assessed through a third-party organization such as Apple Financial Services and reviewed with the Bursary Committee of the College.
  • Jonathan Hames ’88 Memorial Fund

This endowed fund was established by members of the Class of ’88 in memory of their friend and classmate Jonathan Hames ’88 for the purpose of helping boys whose families, due to unexpected circumstances, are unable to fund their final Grade 12 year – ensuring that all boys are able to graduate with their class. A plaque in Jon’s honour has been place on a well-used bench that sits in a nook between the tarmac and turf.
  • Timothy Magee ’95 Memorial Fund

This fund was established by members of the Class of ’94 in memory of their friend Tim Magee '95 for the purpose of supporting student, alumni and faculty Mental Health initiatives at the College. At RSGC, we are committed to consciously building joy at RSGC. Mental health is a critical part of well-being and must be integrated into everyday life at the College. Our wellness initiatives will include speakers and outreach opportunities, increased presence of social workers and other mental health professionals, and community building activities designed to build joy and laughter into the school day. We continue to strive to implement the best in-school practice for adolescent mental health. A plaque in Tim’s honour will be placed on a newly constructed bench near the Chapel to serve as a place to go for reflection and quiet conversation with a friend.
