Rigorous Academic Programming

RSGC offers a rigorous academic program that prepares students for success in higher education and beyond. Our curriculum is designed to challenge students while providing the support they need to excel. With a focus on critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving, our students are equipped with the skills necessary to navigate the complexities of the modern world.

Our faculty members are best-in-class, dedicated professionals who are passionate about teaching and committed to the success and well-being of their students. They bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the classroom, ensuring that our students receive an exceptional learning experience.

We understand that our students are individuals with varying interests and needs. We form partnerships with our students and learning goals are designed with them and with their individual needs in mind. By providing choice in our programs, students learn to make decisions and take ownership of their learning experiences.  Authentic learning takes place as students are given rein to demonstrate their skills with a focus on process, not simply the final product.

Here, collaborative learning is paramount. Clear expectations are established together by teacher and student.
Students work together cooperatively and consider each other’s perspectives, leading to the co-creation of new knowledge and preparing students for real-world experiences in the broader community.
Georgians are encouraged, expected, to act thoughtfully and to learn boldly and courageously. Learning experiences are designed to be challenging and meaningful. Our students are most successful when they take risks in their learning, and we provide the environment in which they are safe to take such risks. We hold our students to a high standard, but we equally ensure there is ample space for joy and laughter.

Our Unique Academic Program

List of 4 items.

  • Learning In All Settings

Learning occurs in all areas of a student’s experience at RSGC – not only in the classroom, but across campus and into the community. That’s why you’ll see students outside conducting test flights of wooden gliders they’ve built, or planting vegetables and garlic in our community garden. It’s why we’ve established the Design Engineering Studio that brings boys of all ages together with the resources they need to tinker and create. It’s why, for example, a group of RSGC boys took the initiative to raise funds to purchase iPods and music for a local extended-care facility, to bring enjoyment to people living with Alzheimer’s and other disabilities.
  • Applied Knowledge

At the heart of learning at RSGC is the application of knowledge. We provide full opportunities for students to work collaboratively as they build understanding in order to solve problems. Our approach relies on students working collaboratively, drawing up plans together, working the numbers, writing and re-writing solutions to problems that exist in the immediate community and beyond. While these opportunities are designed and executed in a community setting, they also allow each boy to expand his own individual creativity and challenge his own limits.

Our learning culture opens our students to developing awareness of how they learn, using academics, athletics, arts, and service. The latest technological tools facilitate our students’ learning in a developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Advanced Curriculum

While the Province of Ontario Curriculum is the basis of our academic program, we continually evolve, expand and enrich the learning experience at RSGC to reach far beyond the Province’s requirements. RSGC’s academic program works to tap into each boy’s motivation, aimed at developing committed and self-aware boys who have the potential to thrive and lead in a changing world.
  • Student Support

At RSGC, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to thrive. Our student support model is grounded in a tiered approach that responds to individual learning needs through collaboration, compassion, and evidence-based practice. Support is coordinated through our Resource Team, which works closely with teachers, families, and students to implement accommodations, develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and provide direct instruction in areas such as executive functioning, literacy, and numeracy.

We use psychoeducational assessments, classroom observations, and teacher insights to design personalized strategies that promote independence, build self-advocacy, and foster academic and social-emotional growth. Whether through in-class support, small-group instruction, or targeted intervention, our approach honours neurodiversity and reflects our commitment to inclusion, equity, and student well-being.
