“It diversifies the student body. … [and] it enhances the ability to compete with other schools who can offer full scholarships.” —Craig Godsoe ‘86
Craig Godsoe ‘86 and his family have continually been generous donors to RSGC. A member of the Class of 1986 alongside his classmate Stephen Beatty, who has served as RSGC’s Headmaster for 14 years, Craig remains closely connected to the school.
When he came to RSGC, he had left another independent school and was looking for a good fit and a place where he could be himself. His previous school had emphasized the importance and link between masculinity and athletics, and Craig appreciated that RSGC took a different approach. Craig also fondly remembers his cohort as a group of students who didn’t engage in any sort of bullying. When asked why he gives back to RSGC, Craig said his motivation is personal. He feels the school offered him a second chance at a good education, one that he wouldn't have had otherwise.
Craig and The Peter and Shelagh Godsoe Family Foundation have given generously to RSGC, and are active contributors to the Georgian Opportunity Fund, which provides deserving students with the opportunity to attend RSGC through scholarships.
Why does Craig choose to support the Georgian Opportunity Fund? A couple of reasons, he explains. “It diversifies the student body. I think that’s important because it’s mainly upper middle class and upper class students who can normally afford to come here,” he says. “The second reason that really resonates with me is because it enhances the ability to compete with other schools who can offer full scholarships.”
To date, Craig, in partnership with the family fund, has contributed more than $400,000 to the Georgian Opportunity Fund, which covers full tuition and other school expenses for boys in Grades 9 to 12.
