Grade 7 and 8 Students Connect with Community Changemakers Through “A Living Library” Experience

Our Grade 7 and 8 students had the great experience of taking part in “A Living Library” – a unique initiative where "living books" — people sharing their experiences — have engaging conversations with "readers" (in this case, our students).
The conversations explored various topics through our guests’ personal experiences, cultural backgrounds, and lived realities, all with the goal of fostering empathy, challenging stereotypes, and promoting understanding in our students.
Our ‘living book’ guests were a group of amazing people from a wide breadth of charities, community organizations, and professions, helping our community with everything from the battles against poverty, homelessness, and hunger; to promoting mental health care and access to books and reading; to building community urban gardens; to assisting with global humanitarian aid; and simply working to make the community better.
We thank them for sharing their insights and wisdom, and for responding to our students’ questions. We are so grateful for their commitment to strengthening the community, broadening our students’ understanding of other people’s lives and experiences, and building stronger community relationships.
