When RSGC reached out to our drama teacher Kristy Smith last November inviting students to audition for their Senior School production of Macbeth, both Morgan Madonik and I were eager to audition.
I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I was honoured and nervous when they asked me to play Lady Macbeth. I’m so glad I agreed and got to work with really talented students.
The play was directed by the Head of the Arts department, Christopher Newton, an amazing director who was incredibly welcoming and supportive. The play was held on February 13 and 14 at the Randolph Theatre.
Being one of two females in a cast of male students was not as challenging or scary as it may seem. After being in many all-female productions at Linden, the rehearsals seemed rather foreign to me at first, but I was surrounded by those who were as passionate about theatre as I am. Once you discover your mutual love for theatre, there is no need to divide us based on gender. This was a fantastic experience and I truly enjoyed working with the students at RSGC. I hope to work with them again in the future!
Morgan Madonik, Grade 12: “Being a part of the production was a great experience for me because I got to work with students outside of Linden on a very difficult play. Although it was challenging to learn my lines, I felt that all of our practices paid off when we finally performed after three months of rehearsals.”
The Linden School thanks Royal St. George’s College for giving our students this opportunity, and for visiting Linden to enact some of the scenes from the play for our faculty and students.
