The boys made beautiful gougères (cheese puffs) and chouquettes (sugar puffs) from In the French kitchen with kids this week. Essentially both are made using choux pastry which is the base for cream puffs and éclairs yet it's so versatile that you can use it to make savoury treat too! The boys made these treats out of just a few simple ingredients (butter, water, flour and eggs) adding cheese or pearl sugar depending on the recipe. They were amazed at how the "floppy, slimy" dough ended up as lovely golden puffs that tasted even better than they looked!
