As Georgians, we have a shared responsibility to understand the truth of residential schools in Canada, the intergenerational impact it has had on Indigenous Peoples and commit to accountability towards healing and reconciliation. We know that we have members of our community who have family and loved ones impacted by the legacy of residential schools. We acknowledge the horrors of this history, and also recognize the strength, resilience, and power of Metis, First Nations and Inuit peoples within our country, city and RSGC community.
Today we gathered as a school as Mr. Leatch raised the Every Child Matters flag to half-mast. Our Evensong presentation on Thursday will be dedicated to truth and reconciliation, with student presenters from the Junior and Senior School. Staff representatives who have participated in our partnership with the M'Chigeeng Community on Manitoulin Island will share their experiences.
