Putting Business Knowledge to the Test

In December, RSGC hosted the annual Logan Wealth Management Business Case Competition for Grade 11 and 12 business students.

A business case competition offers an opportunity for participants to develop the best solution to a business-related case study within a specific time frame. The objective is for participants to exercise their knowledge and skills in a “real-world” business scenario by assessing the situation, analyzing available information, crafting a solution, and defending their recommendations.

During the RSGC competition, students work in groups of 4-5 to develop a solution to a business problem over the course of three hours, before presenting their recommendations to a panel of judges. Six teams of students were split into two pools and each presented to a three-person panel. The top team from each pool then went head to head in the final.

In all, 25 Grade 11 and 12 business students participated. The six judges included four alumni (Chas Beatty ‘11, Julian Caldwell ‘10, Tim Logan ‘88 and Mark Kryshtalskij ‘10) and two parents (Karen Jones, mother of Nicholas Jones, and Erica Herbert, mother of Nick Ramsubick).

RSGC currently participates in three other case competitions during the school year, at Crescent School, the Ivey School of Business, and St. Clement’s. The RSGC competition is open only to students of the College, and helps prepare them to engage in the case methodology (the dominant teaching methodology at business schools around the world) during their post-secondary studies.

This is the second year for RSGC’s competition and the first year that the competition was spon- sored by RSGC alum Tim Logan of Logan Wealth Management. Last year’s winners included Noah Wasserman, Jonathan Kirsh, Sam Glady and Matt Dubczak, while Doug Bowen, Sean Fielding, Alex Forgay, Seb Reed and Tom Latimer took the 2015 cup.
