Chris D’Arcy Honoured with the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence

Senior Master Chris D’Arcy, who has been a teacher at RSGC for 40 years, was recently honoured with the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence, one of only 25 teachers across the country to be given the annual award as a top educator in the country.
Mr. D’Arcy’s nomination process was initiated by a group of grateful parents and supported by current and former students, parents and colleagues. Headmaster Stephen Beatty ’86 fully supported the nomination.

“Chris is a visionary educator who commits his professional practice to always take the road less traveled, to never do things the same way twice and to challenge himself every day to be a better teacher,” said Mr. Beatty. “He empowers his students to come to understand something in themselves that they had not previously known.”

Mr. D’Arcy humbly accepted the honours and is extremely touched that parents of his former students would reach out on his behalf.

“As the recipient of our founding Headmaster Dr. Jack Wright's final teaching contract in 1977, I bear a measure of responsibility for maintaining his dreams for the College,” said Mr. D’Arcy. “Although we've grown enormously in the four decades since, opportunities still abound for individual faculty members to participate in Dr. Wright's vision and add unique value to the educational experience of our young men. To have parents of my former students recognize my achievements to this end through their nomination effort is profoundly meaningful.”

Mr. Beatty proudly presented Mr. D’Arcy with his Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence pin and certificate of excellence on May 11.

The Prime Minister's Awards for Teaching Excellence have honoured exceptional elementary and secondary school teachers in all disciplines since 1993, with over 1,500 teachers honoured to date. Recipients are honoured for their remarkable achievements in education and for their commitment to preparing their students for a digital and innovation-based economy.
