Partnership with a Purpose

Each of us has the power to make a difference.  Our students are encouraged to explore their values and interests to find meaningful opportunities to give back to the community, develop their skills, and contribute to their personal growth.  We strive for community initiatives that engage community members as equal partners.

Goals

  • To help students understand how they can make a difference and a positive contribution within their community.
  • To increase student awareness of community needs.
  • To develop empathy.
  • To discover the role students can play in making their community a better place.
  • To promote life-long service and social responsibility.

Components of the Programme

Students in grades 3-6 work on classwide initiatives to help our local community.

Over the two years of grades 7 & 8 students complete a minimum of 20 hours of Community Service in total, through individual or small-group activities.

Students in grades 9 through 12 are encouraged to find ways they can partner with local organizations outside the school to give of their time while either sharing and developing their skills.

Day of Service - In grades 9 through 12 every student participates in a Day of Service. Each year, students spend a day with their advisor group volunteering at a charitable organization within the GTA.  The hope is that students will return to some of these locations to volunteer throughout the year. Here are some of the organizations with whom our boys have volunteered:

  • Alzheimer’s Coffee Break Day
  • The Children’s Book Bank
  • Dignitas and the Race for Dignity
  • Dress for Success
  • Free the Children
  • Friday Food Ministries at St. Thomas's Anglican Church
  • The Good Shepherd
  • Heart to Hand
  • Kids Help Phone
  • Monthly food drives for local food banks such as The Stop and Walmer Food Bank
  • Right to Play and our partnership with Lord Dufferin School
  • The Scott Mission
  • Vermont Square and the iPod Project for Seniors
  • The Youth and Philanthropy Initiative
