April Arts at RSGC

April was a busy month for the arts at RSGC, with several events showcasing a wide range of performing and visual arts.

Love, Blood and Rhetoric, which ran at the Black Box Theatre April 14 and 15, is a student-run ode to the arts. This year’s event included four productions of theatrical talent directed by Christina Figuerido, Michael Vassos, Dylan Tulett and Graeme Edwards, and exhibition of visual art curated by Senior art teacher Myles Vivares and musical performances curated by Branksome student Mikaela Heck.

Hidden Gems, which happened on April 20, is an annual celebratory concert that showcases the hidden talents of our student, parent and faculty community in support of the Georgian Scholarship for the Arts. This year, Hidden Gems was held at the Garland Room at the Young Centre for the Performing arts. Performers shared acts ranging from a stand-up comedy set, to a martial arts routine, original music, spoken word, and various small group ensembles for a sold-out show.

The following week, on April 28, the Band Showcase took place at the Al Green Theatre at the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre. Bands from Grades 7-12, including the Junior A Band, Junior Stage Band, Grade 9 and 10 bands, as well as Dr. Death and the Grade 12 Jazz Ensemble, shared their musical talents under the direction of Tom Wade-West and Gary Martin.

Grade 12 visual arts students had a unique opportunity to exhibit their work in a real exhibition at Artscape Youngplace, which kicked off with a vernissage on Thursday, April 21. Watch out for the Our Safe Spaces photography exhibit, launching on May 2, also at Artscape, featuring students from RSGC and other Toronto schools.

Congratulations to all our student, faculty and parent artists and performers for a fantastic job!
