Royal St. George's College announces Stephen Beatty as new Headmaster
(TORONTO, June 18, 2010) Tye Farrow, Chair of the Board of Royal St. George’s College, (RSGC), an all-boys independent school in Toronto, today announced the appointment of Stephen Beatty as Headmaster. Mr. Beatty, a graduate of RSGC’s class of 1986, brings extensive educational leadership and expertise to the position.
“I am delighted to return to my alma mater,” says Mr. Beatty. “My formative years were spent in the wonderful community of RSGC where I received an exceptional academic and life experience. I am anxious to bring fresh perspective to this gem of a school.”
Mr. Beatty is currently Headmaster at Toronto’s Montcrest School where he will continue to fulfill his duties until the end of his contract in July 2011, while the school launches a search for his successor.
According to RSGC Chair, Tye Farrow, “We wanted to ensure that Steve could have the opportunity to fulfill his commitment to Montcrest, a school that has been strengthened by his leadership and to which Steve feels a strong desire to see his vision through to its conclusion while ensuring a smooth transition.”
Mr. Beatty brings to his new role at RSGC, an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree, as well as a Bachelor and Masters of Education. Over the past twenty years, he has committed time and energy to RSGC as a volunteer on the executive of the Alumni Association, including a term as President, and has been a member of the RSGC Board of Governors since 2003.
During the transition year, Mr. Paul O’Leary, currently serving as Acting Headmaster, will continue in this role until July, 2011, at which time Mr. O’Leary will return to his role as Principal of the Senior School at RSGC. “We are most fortunate to have the strength, talent and experience of Paul O’Leary working closely with Steve, to orchestrate a seamless transition,” says Mr. Farrow. 
According to Mr. O’Leary, “I could not be happier to be welcoming someone of Steve’s strength and experience to this role. I’m looking forward to working closely with him to provide the best educational experience for our boys throughout this year and beyond.”
